“The K5 Chevy Blazer is the new hot classic SUV” – Hagerty, January 2019
Motor Trend told the Blazer story this way: “Ford had the Bronco. Jeep had the CJ. Even International Harvester-the tractor company-had the Scout. And General Motors had…nothing? Into that sport-utility vacuum, the Chevrolet K5 Blazer was born. With it, GM created a 4×4 that was both a direct response to the existing spectrum of SUVs and yet also apart from it. The key difference was size: Unlike its would-be rivals, the Blazer was based on the automaker’s successful full-size pickup truck. That cost-saving measure allowed it both to come to market quickly and to deliver greater capability than its competition.” The market reaction? “The Chevrolet K5 Blazer was an instant success, and it wasn’t long before the vehicle dominated SUV sales.”
Offered here is a survivor 1972 Chevrolet Blazer CST (Custom Sport Truck) SUV in its original Grapefruit Yellow (code 525) over black, with a black fiberglass roof. This California truck’s interior has been nicely refreshed while its exterior proudly wears patina earned from work and age.
The condition of the relatively rare Grapefruit Yellow paint shows what age, use, and sun can do to factory paint. That said, the survivor-honest patina across the paint is very appealing to originalist-minded owners. Here the patina shows as worn-away-paint areas, generally faded and in some places dulled finish, and small areas of surface rust. Yet in all, a still-respectable overall appearance. With the exception of a crease on the right-rear quarter-panel, the body itself is largely undamaged. Two spots of rust show on the drip rail above the front windshield where the fiberglass roof meets the metal bodywork, and another surrounding the tailgate-release handle. Woodgrain trim on the lower body and tailgate is in very good condition. The front, egg crate-style grille is complete and undamaged, and the front chrome bumper is very well maintained; the rear bumper shows more signs of wear and use. Cabin glass and lighting lenses (including on side-marker lights) are complete, clear, and uncracked. Emblems-including the “K/5 Blazer” front-fender emblem, “8” (cylinder) 350 front-fender engine designation, blue “bowtie” Chevrolet logo front-grille emblem, and “Chevrolet” lettering on the tailgate-are all present and properly located. BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A® tires are mounted on aftermarket chromed steel wheels.
The truck’s interior has benefitted from a full refresh in original-quality materials. Black vinyl upholstery with original-style embossing covers the foldable front buckets as well as the rear bench seat. The vinyl is fresh and free of wear or damage. The same style trim covers the cargo-area walls. Door panels feature woodgrain and black plastic inserts on body-paint-color steel. The original steering wheel (with column-mounted shift lever for the truck’s automatic transmission) frames the standard instrument cluster. The dash is body-color-painted steel with slide-lever controls for heat and air conditioning, and no radio installed in the factory openings. Both rectangular and round vent openings for air conditioning are incorporated. A “Chevrolet CST” emblem is in place on the glove-box door. A lockable storage box is located between the front seats, just aft of the floor-mounted 4-wheel-drive transfer-case selector lever. Floors are covered in fresh black carpeting which extends through the cargo area. The paint on the inside of the rear tailgate shows wear, light rust, and scratches from use.
Under the hood, the truck’s original 350 cubic-inch Chevrolet V8 is in place in a clean, but not detailed, engine bay. The engine block retains its Chevrolet-orange paint. Surface rust is evident on untreated metal. All components-including air conditioning-are correctly in place with hoses and wiring properly routed. Viewed from below, the truck’s chassis is complete and undamaged with a new, full-length, dual-exhaust system properly installed. Surface rust is evident on a number of untreated metal components.
The Blazer’s original build tag remains factory-riveted in place.

Fees and Taxes
For purchases within the State of Michigan, we charge a $200 documentary fee plus sales tax (6%), license (depends on original MSRP and birthdate) or transfer fee ($8), and title fee ($15). For sales outside the State of Michigan, we only charge a $200 documentary fee on top of the sales price.
